A TTC driver was attacked after getting into a dispute with a commuter on his morning route.

The driver was pulled over at the bus station on King and Strachan Streets when a commuter boarded the bus.

"The suspect and the driver got into a fare dispute and the suspect got off the bus," said Danny Nicholson, spokesperson for the TTC.

About 45 minutes later, the driver spotted the same commuter at the Ossington subway station. Police say the driver was attacked and suffered an injury to his arm.

"Possibly a broken elbow," Nicholson said.

The driver has been transported to hospital for treatment.

TTC officials are looking through tapes from surveillance cameras installed at the station and aboard the bus.

"We take operator assaults very seriously," Nicholson said. "Anyone caught will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

Currently, 1,100 buses are equipped with surveillance cameras. There is a plan to equip buses with protective barriers for drivers in 2009.
