Police have identified the man who died in a triple shooting in downtown Toronto over night.
Tariq Mohammed, a 31-year-old from Mississauga, died after he was shot numerous times at close range at the Garden Restaurant, located near Dundas Street West and Chestnut Street, according to Toronto police.
Two female gunshot victims, both in their early 20s, were sent to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition after the incident, which police said occurred around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
Det.-Sgt. Gary Giroux told CP24 that the deceased -- who was pronounced dead at the scene -- was in the company of a group of people when he and another victim became involved in an altercation with two to three suspects inside the restaurant.
Investigators said they would collect surveillance footage from the premises, as well as from Muzik night club, where the victims were earlier that night, before visiting the Garden Restaurant.
Police are looking for two male suspects who were last seen running southbound on Chestnut Street.
One man, who police believe was the shooter, is described as black, aged 20 to 30 and between 5’10” and 5’11” tall with a lanky build. He was wearing a black hoodie and toque.
The second suspect is described as also black and aged 20 to 30, but shorter than the first suspect, with a stocky build, hair in cornrows to the neck, eyes bulging out and a dark hoodie with a logo on the front.
Police do not yet know if the victims and the suspects knew each other.
Police said the restaurant was 95 per cent full at the time, with more than 30 patrons. They have already interviewed several witnesses.
