Dozens of members of Toronto-area police forces are in Moncton, N.B. for the funeral for three RCMP officers killed in a shooting last week.

About 70 officers flew to Moncton early Tuesday morning, and police union president Mike McCormack told CP24 that more officers were heading to the service on other flights or by car.

Some of the Toronto Police Service officers took vacation days to attend the funeral.

"This is something we need to do to help them grieve for the loss of these three officers," McCormack said.

About 30 Ontario Provincial Police officers from across the province were at the service, OPP told CTV Toronto.

Ten officers from the Peel Regional Police honour guard unit attended the 12 p.m. ET service, as well as 12 York Regional Police officers, 4 Durham Regional Police officers and 4 Halton Regional Police officers.

Thousands of people went to the service to mourn the loss of Constables Dave Ross, Fabrice Georges Gevaudan and Douglas James Larache, who were killed last Wednesday night.
