An incident caught on a surveillance camera and thought to be an abduction was just a dispute between a 13-year-old girl and three family members, Toronto police said Monday.
Earlier Monday, police released video of a girl running away from a grey Mazda in the parking lot of a Scarborough Petro-Canada gas station. The footage, taken Sunday afternoon, shows three people overpowering the girl and forcing her back into their car.
According to Det. Joe Digiovanni, police have spoken to the girl and her parents. They are describing the altercation as a family dispute involving a mother, her daughters and her son.
"Right now there have been no arrests but we are going to look further into it," he said.
Earlier Sunday, police were called to a fight between the girl and three adult family members on Dundalk Drive, near Kennedy Road and Highway 401.
The girl was seen arguing with the adults, who then forced her into the car and drove away.
Less than an hour later, the car arrived at the gas station. Its security footage shows the teen running across the parking lot before being forced back into the car.
An attendant at the service station witnessed the scene and immediately called police.
