A five-year-old Toronto girl who suffers from rickets has been found in Montreal "in good health" five months after disappearing, police say.

At about 8 a.m. Monday, Toronto police received an anonymous tip about the whereabouts of the missing child.

"The caller gave us a phone number where the girl could be located," Det. Sgt. Rick Searl told CTV.ca. "We tracked that number to an address, notified Montreal police and they located her in good health."

The girl's parents, who were also found inside the Montreal home, were arrested at the scene.

Investigators with Toronto police are on their way to Montreal to bring the child and her parents back to the city.

She will be handed over to the Children's Aid Society, Searl said.

The girl went missing during a scheduled, supervised visit with her parents in November.

The Children's Aid Society had placed the girl in her aunt's care after police found a small marijuana growing operation inside a home.

The girl and her parents were last seen at the Children's Aid Society building on Kennedy Road on Nov. 29.

Health officials were alarmed because the child requires special vitamins to help her recover from rickets, a condition that causes bones to soften. It usually stems from an inadequate amount of vitamin D and calcium in the diet.

At the time she went missing, the child only had a two-month supply of her medication.

If untreated, rickets can also lead to heart and breathing problems.

Searl said the girl had made "remarkable" progress in overcoming her disease and that doctors feared her condition would deteriorate without her medication.

He said she will have a full check-up by doctors when she returns to Toronto but that Montreal police said she seemed to be in great health.

The apartment where she was found was clean and organized, Montreal police noted.

Searl said he doesn't know if the family has any links to Montreal that would have lead them there.

Her parents, who are not being named in order to protect the identity of the child, are expected to appear in a Scarborough courtroom Tuesday morning. They are facing charges of parental abduction.
