Ontario's police oversight agency has been called in to investigate after a woman died after falling from a balcony in the city's east end late Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred after police were called to an apartment building on Gordonridge Place, in the Danforth Road and Midland Avenue area at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit said officers went to a seventh-floor apartment, where a woman answered but refused to open the door.
According to the SIU, a 30-year-old woman fell from the balcony a short time later.
The woman was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and was pronounced dead around midnight.
A postmortem is expected to take place on Thursday.
The SIU is called to investigate reports involving police when there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
