Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has released the identity of a 31-year-old man who fell to his death from an apartment balcony in Toronto's east end shortly after dealing with police.
Pardeep Singh Mann died after plunging from the 21st storey of a Scarborough apartment at 60 Town Centre Court just before midnight on Wednesday, the SIU said on Thursday.
He landed on a ninth-floor platform and was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem was conducted Thursday morning.
Toronto police have confirmed that officers were on site to look for a wanted man, but would not comment further because the investigation was in the hands of the SIU.
In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, the SIU confirmed that officers from Toronto Police Services spoke with the man through the door of an apartment shortly before his death.
A neighbour indicated to police that a man was attempting to enter their residence from the balcony. The officers entered the neighbour's apartment and at some point the man fell from the balcony, the SIU said.
The SIU has designated one officer as the subject of their investigation and three officers as witnesses in relation to their investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the lead investigator at 416-622-2038 or 1-800-787-8529 extension 2038.
