A spokesperson for the Toronto Catholic District School trustees who are accused of misspending taxpayer dollars says the public has called the board to voice their displeasure.
"We have been receiving calls," Mary Jo Deighen told CTV Toronto Thursday. "We have been receiving emails and obviously there's been an upset."
A leaked report found trustees billing the public purse for thousands of dollars worth of business expenses. However, a close look at those expenses found that they weren't all business related.
The report showed trustees billed for multiple meals in one day, alcohol and even food and drinks from hotel mini-bars. Some trustees also gave themselves an annual car allowance of $8,600.
The report is detailed down to the dollar but it doesn't mention the names of the trustees that filed the expenses.
"I'm sure the (public) would like to know more specifics about the individuals that appear to have misused the funds," Deighen said.
However, she also said none of the trustees are available to speak publicly on the charges they face of misusing their expense accounts.
"There aren't any trustees in the building," she said when a CTV Toronto reporter showed up at the board's headquarters in North York.
The board chair is out of town because of a death in her family and the vice chair was "not available" to comment, Deighen said.
The trustees were expected to attend a board meeting Thursday night to pick a replacement for their former colleague Christine Nunziata.
Nunziata was removed from the board for missing several meetings.
Earlier this year, she was also accused of misusing public funds for allegedly expensing a vacation to the Dominican Republic.
