A 19-year-old man is facing numerous charges after leading police on a wild wrong-way pursuit on Highway 400.
Barrie police spotted a minivan driving in an erratic manner on local streets and began to follow the vehicle. The van was swerving all over the roads. Police suspected the driver was impaired.
Police activated their lights and sirens to prompt the driver to pull over, but the motorist sped away.
The pursuit continued on several streets until the driver got onto Highway 400 -- where he was driving north in the southbound lanes, police said.
Officers contacted the OPP for assistance. The chase continued for some time until police deployed a spike strip, puncturing the van's tires.
The suspect's vehicle came to a stop at Moonstone Road. Police arrested a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged him with dangerous driving and impaired driving. He also faces additional charges.
No one was hurt in the incident.
