For the second time this week, pieces of concrete have fallen onto traffic under the Gardiner Expressway.

City of Toronto crews were dispatched to Parkside Road near High Park Thursday morning, after several pieces of concrete fell from the Gardiner Expressway above.

Police said the fallen concrete was reported around 10 a.m. after a large chunk fell right in front of a moving vehicle.

John Bryson, from the city's Technical Services division, said crews were examining the area around the missing piece to ensure nothing else is going to fall.

"We are now doing some controlled chipping in the area where the concrete fell," Bryson told CTV Toronto. "We are also having a private consultant come out right away to look at it to see what remedy we need to stop more concrete from falling."

On Monday, a large chunk of concrete fell from the Gardiner onto Lakeshore Boulevard East, near Lower Jarvis Street.

In June 2011, a portion of Lakeshore Boulevard near Bathurst Street had to be closed after a large piece of concrete fell from the Gardiner Expressway.

No one was injured in either incident.

The city has an annual inspection program for the Gardiner Expressway during the spring and summer to try and prevent such incidents.
