A Mississauga man has been arrested in the death of a Petro-Canada gas station attendant killed trying to stop a "gas and dash" in May.
Hashem Atifeh Rad was the only employee at work on the afternoon of May 19 when he tried to stop a customer driving a beige Nissan Altima from driving away without paying.
The 62-year-old employee caught up with the car just as it was leaving the parking lot, but the vehicle struck him and Rad was dragged into the street.
He died in hospital the next day.
The driver allegedly made off with $75 in gas stolen from the station, located at Truscott Drive and Southdown Road in Mississauga.
Peel police say they spent the next five months interviewing hundreds of Nissan Altima owners in their attempts to track down the suspect.
This weekend, they charged 22-year-old Abdullahi Mohamoud with failing to remain at the scene of a crime causing death, criminal negligence causing death, theft under $5,000 and breach of recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on Oct. 21.
