Police are searching for a man who carjacked a taxi driver at gunpoint at a downtown gas station early Monday morning.
The incident began around 3:30 a.m. when the suspect refused to pay for food at a gas station near Carlaw Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard, officials said.
After the dispute, the armed man reportedly approached a taxi in the gas station parking lot and forced the driver into the cab's backseat.
Toronto police said the suspect then climbed into the front of the cab and drove off towards Bay Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, where he got into a collision.
Details about the collision are not immediately available. Video captured on scene shows the orange and green taxi abandoned near the downtown intersection, the nose of the taxi crushed.
The cabbie was not injured during the ordeal but did have some money stolen, officials said.
Police continue to search for the armed carjacker, who fled on foot. He is described as a white male in his 20s, wearing sunglasses, a white jacket and blue jeans.
