Provincial police have identified Donato Frigo, 70, as the man who died in a shooting in rural southwestern Ontario.
Police held a brief news conference on Monday afternoon, but remained tight-lipped about whether the shooting was targeted. They did not provide a description of the suspect.
Earlier Monday, Frigo -- the vice-president of Toronto-based firm Hady Construction Group, located in Etobicoke -- was identified by friends and coworkers as the victim of Saturday’s shooting. They described the Caledon, Ont., businessman as an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
Frigo's body was found in a rural area near the Hullett Wildlife Conservation Area, northeast of Clinton, Ont., on Saturday afternoon.
OPP say Frigo and a woman were riding horses near a wildlife conservation area in Central Huron when they were "approached by an unknown man."
The pair were practicing for a hunting competition at the Hullett Marsh scheduled for this week when a man in a light-blue car pulled up, witnesses told CTV Kitchener. Gunshots were heard before the car drove away. Police say the woman was able to get to safety, but suffered minor injuries.
Following the shooting, police set up roadblocks to keep vehicles away from the area.
A tactical team, forensics experts and a canine unit were in the area Saturday and Sunday, searching for a suspect and evidence.
A co-worker told CTV Toronto on Monday that Frigo had no known enemies and didn't owe anyone money.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Huron County OPP immediately at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
