A 23-year-old man is dead following a house party shooting in Mississauga early Saturday morning. He was shot in the head after reportedly getting into a shouting match with another man.
The shooting happened at around 3:45 a.m. on Monica Drive, in the Malton region. The party spilled out onto the street where the victim, identified as David Latchana, was approached by a male suspect.
They got into a brief verbal confrontation when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him. Latchana was pronounced dead at the scene.
Peel police and a team of forensic experts remained at the house throughout Saturday, trying to figure out what led to the confrontation. A lot of people were at the party and police hope some of them will come forward to shed some light on what happened.
"There was a lot of noise and yelling," said neighbour Ben Nikolic. "I could see a bunch of guys talking loud and arguing."
Nikolic told CTV News this isn't the first time police have been called to that address. Late-night parties, loud visitors and beer bottles strewn on the front lawn are a common occurrence at the home.
"A couple times we went to the police station and complained but nothing happened," he said.
Police say they have received minor complaints about the house in the past but none recently.
Homicide detectives are asking the public to help them identify a man seen leaving the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle. There may have been up to three passengers inside.
Anyone with information can call investigators at (905) 453-2121 ext. 3205 or if they wish to remain anonymous, they can leave a tip with Crime Stoppers, (416) 222-TIPS.
This is Peel region's 13th homicide of the year.
