Police in the Niagara region busted a "major" clandestine meth lab on Saturday that was being run in a barn in a scenic rural area.
The bust came after a five-month investigation into the lab, which had been housed inside the barn and was the "focal point of a major super clandestine lab."
Inside the building, police seized several pieces of gear devoted to making the illegal drug, which is an addictive stimulant. Officers also seized a large amount of the drug.
Crews now face the dangerous task of removing the chemicals used in the drug-making process. Many of the chemicals are toxic and flammable.
"The flammable solvents, acids and other poisonous and caustic chemicals used pose a risk of fire or explosion, and the criminality and danger that accompanies these labs is ever present," Niagara Regional Police said in a statement.
James DiBenedetto, 54, and Jason Barr, 37, have been charged with producing a controlled substance and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
Both men had been living in a home in nearby Pelham, where police also seized $50,000 in cash.
