A female victim who was trapped under a Toronto Transit Commission bus in the York University bus loop has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Capt. Stephan Powell of the Toronto Fire Services says the incident happened shortly after 1:15 p.m. in the Ian MacDonald and York Boulevards area.

She was freed shortly after 1:50 p.m., a Toronto police spokesperson said in a tweet.

EMS says she suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

It is not yet clear how she became trapped.

Powell said crews used blocks to lift the bus off the ground, allowing emergency workers to reach the 27-year-old and load her onto a stretcher.

"We slowly inched the vehicle upwards and as we did … we put a block of wood underneath to support the weight (of the bus)," Powell said.

Powell said the victim was conscious while emergency crews were working to free her.
