A dump-truck driver has been charged with criminal negligence causing death in connection with a collision that killed two young Brampton sisters last week.
Vanessa Diceglie, 19, and her 23-year-old sister Isabel, were in their vehicle at the intersection of Mayfield Road and Airport Road in Caledon last Thursday when they were struck by a dump truck.
Ontario Provincial Police say the girls were in their car waiting to make a left turn when they were struck by the southbound truck.
Vanessa died at hospital the same day, while Isabel succumbed to her injuries on Saturday night. The truck driver was not hurt.
Both women were York University students majoring in French. They were laid to rest on Wednesday.
Caledon OPP charged 28-year-old Gurjant Singh Sidhu of Etobicoke on Wednesday with two counts of criminal negligence causing death. He was to appear in court for a bail hearing.
OPP say September has been one of the deadliest months on record. Twenty-two people have died on Ontario roadways during the first two weeks of September. Nine of the fatalities involved transport trucks.
