Caledon police say charges are pending in a dump truck accident that claimed the life of two sisters over the weekend.
The women were driving in a vehicle on Airport Road near Caledon when they attempted to make a left turn onto Mayfield Road and were struck by a dump truck.
Vanessa Diceglie, 19, died on Thursday at Peel Memorial Hospital in Brampton. Her sister, Isabel Diceglie, 23, died Saturday evening. The truck driver was not injured.
Both women were York University students majoring in French.
Police say their investigation is continuing and charges are pending against the driver of the dump truck.
The mother of the two women, Christina Diceglie, called her daughters her two angels. She mourned their loss on Monday and the chance to see her children walk down the aisle.
"I have family in Italy, I was hoping they would come for two weddings, instead it's a funeral, for two kids not one," Diceglie said.
The youngest child in the Diceglie family, Gianfranco, said his parent's house will be empty without his sisters.
"I have a hole in my heart. I always had them, they were always there," he said.
Ontario Provincial police say September has been one of the deadliest months on record.
Twenty-two people have died on Ontario roadways during the first two weeks of September. Nine of the fatalities involved transport trucks.
"Some of the truckers are just taking too many chances going through yellow and red lights," Sgt. Cam Woolley told CTV News on Monday.
A viewing for the Diceglie sisters will be held Monday at the Ward Funeral home in Woodbridge. The funeral will be held at St. Peter's Church in Woodbridge at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
