HAMILTON - A man and woman from Ancaster are facing drug and theft charges after police seized 600 marijuana plants from a local home.
Hamilton police say they found the plants Friday while searching the basement of an Ancaster home near a high school.
They say electricity was being stolen, and hydro wires leading from the transformer box to the home had melted - a potential fire hazard.
Police say a natural gas provider had to shut down gas to the residence as well because the gas line was compromised.
Two adults were arrested and a four-year-old child was taken into custody by the Children's Aid Society.
Police say the 32-year-old man and 27-year-old woman are facing charges of possession of marijuana, trafficking and theft under $5,000.
