Firefighters in Vaughan battled a residential blaze on King Road, west of Highway 401.

The fire broke out during the noon hour on Friday and quickly ravaged the home.

Flames shot out of the roof as firefighters struggled to keep a nearby barn from igniting.

Debris from the blaze also triggered a grass fire in the area that torched a number of acres.

Both fires were eventually brought under control by fire crews.

The house was empty at the time and no injuries have been reported.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the afternoon blaze.
