TORONTO -- A community activist whose G20-related charges were dropped is suing Toronto police and an undercover provincial police officer.

Julian Ichim claims he was targeted because of his Marxist political views, not because he espoused violence.

According to his unproven statement of claim, Ichim says the undercover cop infiltrated various activist groups, and Ichim considered him a good friend.

He says the officer urged activists to commit criminal acts and gave false information about his activities.

Ichim claims he was beaten during his arrest in June 2010, when he was charged with conspiring to do property damage and obstruct police at the G20 summit.

He is seeking $4 million in general and punitive damages, but says it's not about the money, it's about accountability.
