The giant Toronto sign installed in Nathan Phillips ahead of the Pan Am Games will remain as part of the sporting event’s legacy, the city announced on Sunday.
The idea to keep in place the sign after the Games are over came from the success of similar installations at past Pan Am Games.
“In Guadalajara, they had letters Guadalajara and people took pictures there and it became an iconic point,” said Teddy Katz, a spokesperson for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.
The sign has proved a popular attraction since the start of the Games, with thousands of fans posing for photos in front of it and even sitting in its shade. Numerous photos of the sign have also been shared around the world via social media.
The 3D installation will remain in Nathan Phillips Square until the end of the year.
After that, it will be moved around to different locations throughout the city.
