MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- A Peel Regional Police officer has been charged with dangerous driving following an investigation by the province's police watchdog.

The Special Investigations Unit says the officer was behind the wheel of an unmarked police vehicle this July in Mississauga when it collided (at the intersection of Tomken Road and Bloor Street) with a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Thanh Huynh.

The incident sent Huynh to hospital with a fractured left hand.

Const. Ufuk (YOU-fook) Ciftci faces one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court next month.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
