A male victim has died following a two-alarm fire in Toronto's east end.
The blaze broke out at a semi-detached home in the area of Gerrard Street East and Greenwood Avenue at approximately 8 p.m.
Platoon Chief Trevor Trotter said when crews arrived, there was smoke coming from the back of the building.
“Our crews proceeded to the rear (to) extinguish the fire,” Trotter said Monday night. “We found what appears to be a kitchen area in the lower level of the unit and came across a male body.”
The person, who has not been identified, was declared dead at the scene.
No other injuries have been reported.
Trotter said the fire was knocked down "fairly quickly."
Police say Gerrard Street East, between Hiawatha Road and Greenwood Avenue, has been closed as officials investigate the fire.
