Toronto Fire Service’s hazmat unit was called to clean up an oil spill at Etobicoke Creek near The West Mall and Sherway Drive.
Police responded to a call at 150 Sherway Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, after a man reported seeing a black substance on the river.
Toronto Fire Services say the substance has been identified as tar-diluted oil.
Photos of the spill posted to Reddit on Thursday show a duck covered in oil and a black substance pooling in the creek.
A boom appears to have been placed in the river in order to contain the spill.
No injuries have been reported and no evacuations have been ordered.
