One person has died after crashing a small plane in a field near the Stoney Creek Airport.
Few details are known, but Hamilton police said the small plane crashed near the private airport on Friday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, a soybean field located at Mud Street East and Sixth Road, at approximately 7 a.m.
There was a small fire, which was quickly extinguished by fire crews. Once the fire was extinguished, a body was found inside the wreckage.
Police said it appears that only one person was in the plane at the time of the crash.
Investigators have yet to identify the victim, nor have they said what type of plane was involved. The Transportation Safety Board said that the aircraft was "amateur-built."
It is not yet known whether the plane had been taking off or landing at the airport.
Transport Canada officials have also been called to the scene to investigate.
