A sinkhole the size of a minivan opened up in the city's east end Tuesday morning after a watermain broke on Lawrence Avenue.
Traffic was diverted around the sinkhole on the eastbound lanes of Lawrence near Victoria Park Avenue.
City officials say it was caused by a pool of water that collected below the roadway and weakened the concrete ground.
Crews are expected to spend most of the day repairing the sinkhole and repaving the roadway. They hope to be finished by the end of the day on Wednesday.
In the meantime, Lawrence Avenue has been whittled down to one lane of traffic in each direction.
