Police are asking residents of three Toronto neighbourhoods to be on the lookout for suspicious behaviour after 11 cars and one home, all of which had Liberal campaign signs out front, were vandalized in recent days.
Police spokesperson Const. Tony Vella said the string of incidents began on Sept. 27, when a Scarborough home owner found his car's brake lines had been cut.
Then, over the weekend, a car in High Park was vandalized, as were nine cars in the Yonge and Eglinton area. A mid-town home was also sprayed with graffiti that Vella would only describe as "anti-Liberal wording."
Vella said the investigation is in its early stages.
"We're considering each scene as a major crime scene, where we're taking foot prints and finger prints," Vella told CTVToronto.ca in a telephone interview.
Vella said police will also probe whether the most recent incidents are connected to vandalism in the Yonge and Eglinton area and other neighbourhoods during last spring's federal election campaign.
Dozens of residents in Toronto complained their cars had been vandalized over a string of several days last April. Interim federal Liberal Leader Bob Rae was among those who had a car tire slashed. About 80 per cent of the homes targeted then had Liberal campaign signs out front.
Vella said investigators are asking residents to remain vigilant, and contact police if they notice any suspicious activity.
