TORONTO - Occupy Toronto protesters blocked off part of Dundas Street in the city's core Friday evening after two of their members were injured by police during an arrest earlier in the day.
Streetcars were diverted as about 75 people stood on Dundas Street near McCaul Street and eventually marched down to Queen Street and University Avenue to protest what they said was police brutality.
The march stemmed from an incident earlier in the day when police say four people were forcibly removed from 361 University Ave., near Osgood Hall.
The protesters were asked to remove tents from the area two days ago, but did not leave, police said.
When they were asked to leave again on Friday at about 2:30 p.m., police said one man began yelling and screaming.
The man was arrested and struggled during the arrest and one man and two women tried to stop the arrest, police said.
Protesters said a woman was punched in the face and was treated for an eye injury at St. Michael's Hospital. They said another man was at Toronto General, under police guard while he was treated.
All four protesters involved are now in police custody.
Police have charged two men and two women with a series of charges.
John Erb, 44, is charged with cause disturbance, assault with intent to resist arrest, assault peace officer, possession of marijuana and fail to comply probation.
Craig Poirier, 35, is charged with obstruct peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest and possession of marijuana.
Alice Evonic, 19, is charged with obstruct peace officer.
Angela Turvey, 36, is charged with obstruct peace officer and assault with intent to resist arrest.
They will appear in court Saturday.
