Two men in their 20s are being accused of street racing after a car crash earlier this month that landed five people in hospital.
Police arrested the two suspects Tuesday morning and charged them with 12 driving offences.
The accident happened at around 10 p.m. on April 1 at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Midland Avenue.
Police say two cars were westbound on Lawrence when one of the vehicles drove into the intersection against the red light. That car struck a vehicle travelling north on Midland Avenue.
Five people were hurt in the crash though none of the injuries are considered life threatening.
Aamir Khan, a 21-year-old Toronto resident, and 19-year-old Mohammed Muhib, of Pickering, have both been charged with:
- Four counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm
- Street racing -- chasing another vehicle
Khan is also charged with obstructing police and public mischief.
Both men have had their driver's licence suspended for seven days.
Khan's car has been seized for one week under the new racing legislation.
