Passengers taking advantage of the early start to subway service due to the Pan Am Games this weekend want the 6 a.m. start time to be permanent.
“If we can only start travelling at 9 o’clock, that’s three hours later than we might have been able to start and other events get pushed back,” said Mike Cerovich, who frequently uses the subway on Sundays.
Toronto Mayor John Tory has also said that he is in favour of an earlier start to subway service on Sundays. Tory says he wants trains to start rolling by at least 7 or 8 a.m.
The Toronto Transit Commission said it has thought about starting subway service earlier on Sundays, but says crews need the morning hours to perform track maintenance.
If it were to start operating earlier, the TTC said, the schedule changes would not come into effect for at least five years.
