A female truck driver has been charged with impaired driving after her transport truck flipped on Highway 401 Thursday night, sending three people to hospital and shutting down the area for several hours.

The incident occurred in the westbound collector lanes near Keele Street at about 8:30 p.m.

After the five-tonne truck flipped, it plowed into a sign truck and Transportation Ministry vehicle that were on the shoulder, police said.

The driver and two highway maintenance workers were injured in the crash and taken to hospital. They were all expected to make full recoveries.

All lanes were re-opened before 2 a.m.

Police said the 32-year-old driver was only licensed to drive a car.

She is also facing a charge of driving without a proper licence.
