A 15-year transit rider was the centre of attention on Tuesday when she became the Toronto Transit Commission's 28 billionth customer.
TTC Chair Karen Stintz presented Kathy Dillion with a special gift at the Davisville subway station at 11 a.m.
"I want to thank you for being a loyal customer of the TTC for 15 years," Stintz said to Dillion.
Dillion, who has been using the TTC's MVP metropasses for 15 years, received a year of free metropasses and a plaque.
"I use the TTC everyday," Dillion said. "I'm very pleased with the service."
Stintz said the commission determined the lucky rider by reviewing records of the MVP pass, a service in which customers sign up for a year of monthly passes. The MVP program has been in operation since 1994.
Stintz said that Dillion was one of the first Torontonian to sign up for the MVP program.
"We thought it was important to honour our most loyal customers," Stintz said.
The TTC has been in operation since 1921, averaging more than 311 million riders a year over its 90-year history.
With the world's population currently hovering around the seven billion mark, every person currently rotating the sun could have travelled on the TTC four times.
Earth is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old, meaning six people have ridden the TTC for every year our planet has existed.
