Police confirmed the identity of Toronto's latest homicide victim on Thursday in an appeal for information in the north-end shooting death.

The victim, 16, was found shot dead inside a community housing property Wednesday afternoon. He is Toronto's 53rd homicide victim of 2010. A single candle burned on Thursday at the doorway marking the stairwell where he died.

Devastated friends described him as a good kid who played football and hockey.

The incident took place shortly after 4 p.m. on Neptune Dr., which is in the Rajah Park neighbourhood just south of Highway 401 and midway between Bathurst Street and the Allen Road.

Residents such as Mark Hauer said that gunshots can be heard about once a week at times.

Police don't have a motive yet. They believe two to four people may have been involved, but they have no descriptions. They are searching for any security camera video that might have captured a glimpse of those behind the killing.

Investigators are appealing to the community for assistance. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
