TORONTO - Toronto restaurateurs are calling for compensation for losses suffered during the G20 summit last June.
Representatives of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association are to appear before a Commons committee on Thursday.
The association says it'll be asking the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security for fair compensation for restaurants hurt during the G20 summit of world leaders.
The group says it's also calling for an expansion of the zone eligible for compensation, as well as compensation for restaurants forced to close due to fear of safety risks.
The group says a survey of downtown restaurants indicates more than 90 per cent of respondents saw a significant sales decrease during the summit -- which drew huge crowds of protesters.
The association says 234 restaurants replied to its survey with downtown restaurants reporting an average sales drop of 55 per cent, while 51 per cent closed during the summit due to safety concerns.
