An extreme cold weather alert has been extended for Toronto as residents continue to shiver during the deep freeze.
The forecast called for a high of -15C on Sunday, but the wind chill factor was expected to make it feel more like -28C.
Some parts of the province were expected to see temperatures plummet to -40C.
Toronto issued the cold weather warning on Saturday, where the mercury hovered in the -20C range with the wind chill.
The alert triggers the city to open an additional 80 emergency sleeping spaces for the homeless and provide extra street outreach services.
Emergency TTC tickets will also be issued through drop-in centres, allowing homeless people to get a free ride to shelters.
The public can also call a 24-hour toll-free number if they see a homeless person sleeping outside in the cold weather. The Street Helpline can be reached at 1-866-392-3777.
The frigid weather is expected to continue for the next several days, staying well below the seasonal average.
Meanwhile, the OPP on Sunday issued a warning advisory to motorists in southwestern Ontario to stay off the roads unless they have to.
A storm created whiteout conditions and drifting snow closed several roadways. Even snowplows did not go out because of the dangerous weather.
Police said they were having a difficult time getting to stranded motorists who skidded off the road.
