TORONTO - Top officials from scandal-plagued eHealth Ontario will be grilled by opposition politicians when they appear before a legislative committee Wednesday.
A recent auditor general's report into the $1 billion Ontario has spent developing electronic health records criticized eHealth for giving out millions of dollars in untendered contracts.
The governing Liberals last month used their majority to prevent a legislature committee from compelling the chairman of eHealth's board and the agency's CEO from testifying.
However, eHealth confirmed today that interim CEO Rob Devitt and chairwoman Rita Burak will appear before the public accounts committee Wednesday.
Burak and Devitt were appointed during the summer after the former CEO and chairman were removed from eHealth even before the auditor general's scathing report was released.
The eHealth scandal also cost David Caplan his job as Ontario's health minister.
The Opposition today again demanded a public inquiry but Premier Dalton McGuinty accused them of playing politics and said the auditor had addressed the issue.
