TORONTO - Southwestern Ontario member of provincial parliament Toby Barrett is continuing to push for an inquiry into Ontario's bungled eHealth program.

Barrett, who represents the Haldimand-Norfolk region, says the Gomery inquiry into the federal Liberals' sponsorship scandal five years ago involved only a fraction of the money the McGuinty government has spent on eHealth with little to show for it.

Barrett says the value of an inquiry is that it can look back to find out what happened and propose reform.

He adds that while auditor general Jim McCarter pointed to uncontrolled spending and no significant results, he lacked the mandate to answer many of the important questions about the dollars funnelled to consultants.

McCarter's report stated that the one consultant eHealth had contracted in 2002 grew to 328 consultant contracts by 2009, while there were only 27 eHealth employees.
