Toronto police have launched an investigation after a 16-year-old boy was shot and wounded on school property early Wednesday morning.

Police became aware of the incident when the teen walked into the emergency department at St. Joseph’s Health Centre with a gunshot wound to the leg shortly after 1 a.m.

The boy indicated the incident occurred at Queen Victoria Public School on Close Avenue, near King Street West and Jameson Avenue, a police spokesperson told CP24.

Police tape surrounded the school early Wednesday morning.

The school and hospital are about one kilometre apart.

Investigators are trying to figure out what happened, but the teen has not been co-operating with them, police said.
