A Toronto taxi van drove into a massive pot hole in the east end of Toronto Thursday morning, after a water main break flooded the road and caused the asphalt to crack and break.
Toronto police were diverting traffic from Gerrard Street East in the Victoria Park Avenue area after a massive car-sized pothole formed and filled with muddy water from a broken water main.
The water main break was reported at about 7 a.m. and, shortly after, a taxi driver apparently missed the detour and drove into the hole, getting the front end of his van stuck. A tow truck pulled the vehicle free shortly after 8:30 a.m.
City crews shut down water service to the area and worked to address the broken water main.
Eastbound traffic along Victoria Park is being diverted along Blantyre Avenue as the hole is patched.
