Mourners packed an east-end church on Friday to say goodbye to a Toronto sister and brother who were murdered in a vicious attack on Christmas Day.
Friends and family of 22-year-old Iliada Zois and 14-year-old Tommy Zois consoled each other during the funeral service at St. John Greek Orthodox Church.
"If I was having a problem, she would always be there and she would try to make the best of any situation that she was in," one woman said.
"I loved Jamie like a brother, my only brother," said one young man.
Police say the victims, who have four sisters and two brothers, were stabbed to death inside an apartment building at 2737 Kipling Ave., near Steeles Avenue, in Etobicoke on Dec. 25.
The siblings' 16-year-old brother Tommy Zois stumbled into police station on Boxing Day evening and told police of the slaying. He was bound and gagged in a closet after the killings and was able to break free, police said.
Officers arrested Iliada Zois' common-law husband a day later after a man phoned police.
Nana Yaw, 27, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of attempted murder and forcible confinement.
Yaw was scheduled to make a video remand court appearance on Friday.
