A Toronto man who police say volunteered at an elementary school and represented himself as a reverend has been charged with several child pornography offences.
Officers arrested the accused at his east-end apartment building on Glamorgan Avenue, near Kennedy Road and Highway 401, on Wednesday.
Investigators were notified about the suspect after being contacted by the National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre.
Police determined images uploaded onto a photo-sharing website were consistent with the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Michael Harman, 37, is charged with:
- Two counts of possession of child pornography
- Make available child pornography
Police don't believe he is a reverend or a member of the clergy.
Investigators said the accused previously volunteered at Glamorgan Junior School, and believe his activities may have placed him in a supervisory position with children.
Police believe the accused is active within the youth community in his area, and often communicates with young people using the email address darthvalor@sympatico.ca.
Harman is to appear in court on Monday.
