One person is dead and another injured after a shooting at a highrise apartment building in North York's Flemingdon Park area.

Toronto Police Service spokesperson Const. Kristine Bacharach told CTV Newsnet that the shots rang out on Pavane Linkway at about 2:48 p.m. Thursday.

When police officers responded to the scene they found two male victims.

One of the victims succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He had been shot in the head.

The other victim was rushed to the Sunnybrook Hospital's trauma centre with neck and chest wounds. He underwent emergency surgery Thursday afternoon and is expected to survive.

Both victims are believed to be in their 20s.

Bacharach said that officers with the Homicide Squad have taken over the investigation. Police are searching for two suspects who were seen running south into a nearby ravine.

Witnesses to the shooting describe one of the suspects as being:

  • A man between 20 to 30-years-old;
  • Black;
  • With a full beard; and
  • Wearing a white doo rag, black pants and black coat.

Witnesses also report seeing the suspect running from the area, armed with a silver handgun.
