Toronto police have offered a $50,000 reward in an unsolved homicide investigation into the death of a 22-year-old man who was swarmed and beaten two years ago.
Kristian Thanapalan was beaten to death by a group of men wielding baseball and cricket bats after he had finished played volleyball in an east-end park in July 2009.
Police claim Thanapalan and his friends got into a verbal argument with another group of men playing sports at Glamorgan Park on Antrim Crescent near Kennedy Road.
Investigators said at the time that both groups of men that were involved in the fight were from the Tamil community.
Homicide investigators say they have received anonymous information indicating who is responsible for Thanapalan's death, but need witnesses to step forward who can corroborate the information.
Police said on Monday that a $50,000 reward was being offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
"I am hoping that the announcement of this reward will encourage at least one person, if not more, to come forward and provide the testimony that we need to further this investigation," Det. Doug Dunstan told reporters on Monday.
