TORONTO -

Police say there's no evidence of gang connections in the beating death of a man in an east-end Toronto park earlier this month.

There have been no arrests in the swarming attack on Kristian Thanapalan, 22, and his friends by several men wielding baseball and cricket bats.

It happened after Thanapalan's group had been playing volleyball.

Investigators say the incident may have been a fight that got out of hand.

At a news conference today, Thanapalan's family appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

Police also say they have found no link between Thanapalan's death and the fatal stabbing of another man in east-end Toronto this week.
