Toronto police are looking for a woman who stepped forward with information about a hit-and-run Thursday afternoon.

Police said a man driving a Honda Civic struck a 27-year-old pedestrian crossing Mount Pleasant Road, just north of Bloor Street East, shortly before noon on Thursday.

It is alleged the driver failed to remain at the scene of the accident.

An unknown woman followed the car and collected details, including a description of the driver and licence plate number.

Police say the woman returned to the scene and gave the information to another bystander who was on the phone with an emergency dispatcher.

A 49-year-old man was located by police and arrested for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

Police are grateful to the woman who obtained the information and are requesting that she contact police at Traffic Services, at 416-808-1900.
