A second suspect wanted in connection with a TTC bus shooting is facing criminal charges after turning himself into police custody.
On Feb. 23, a 17-year-old male was shot and pistol-whipped while riding on a TTC bus travelling along Oakwood Avenue in the Dufferin Street and St. Clair Avenue area.
Police say the teenager got on the bus and almost immediately exchanged words with two men sitting at the back of the bus. A physical altercation ensued and a gunshot was fired.
The bus driver pulled the vehicle over and the fight continued on the street. The victim was then pistol-whipped several times and was shot, though he did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Three days after the shooting police arrested and charged a 27-year-old man with eight offences, including attempted murder while using a firearm.
On Mar. 2, police identified Marlon Josemar Cooper, 22, as an outstanding suspect in the case.
Cooper turned himself into police Friday and is due to appear in court over the weekend.
The Toronto Star reported Saturday that Cooper has been charged with attempted murder using a firearm, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and assault.
The February shooting followed several criminal incidents on TTC vehicles or property in recent months:
- On Jan. 22, a man was shot at the Osgoode subway station.
- On Feb. 12, a man was stabbed at Wilson subway station. The 29-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
- On Feb. 13, three teens were pushed onto the path of an oncoming subway train. Two of them lost their balance and fell onto the tracks but were able to roll underneath the lip of the platform, escaping serious injury.
