The victim of the brazen afternoon attack in the Ashbury Avenue/Oakwood Avenue area in the city's west end, was a 17-year-old boy.
Police issued a statement saying 27-year-old Richard Haynes, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with eight counts stemming from the incident on Feb. 23.
Haynes is charged with:
- Attempted murder while using a firearm
- Aggravated assault
- Discharging a firearm and endangering life
- Using a firearm while committing an indictable offence
- Possession of a firearm
- Possession of a restricted weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
He is scheduled to appear at the 1000 Finch Avenue W. court on Feb. 27, room 306 at 2 p.m.
Another suspect is still being sought by police. He is described as having a dark black complexion, between 20 and 25 years of age, with a moustache.
The second suspect is about 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Police say the two suspects were seated at the back of the Oakwood Avenue bus when the victim boarded at Vaughan Road at just after 1 p.m. on Monday.
Almost immediately, the three men -- who police say knew each other -- exchanged words and got into a physical altercation when a gunshot was fired.
The bus driver quickly pulled over the vehicle and the three men spilled out onto the street where the fight continued. The victim was pistol-whipped several times and was shot.
The victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries. There were about 12 other passengers on the bus but no one else was injured.
