Police have charged five more people in connection with an alcohol-fueled riot that took place in London, Ont., on St. Patrick's Day.
That brings the total to 38 people facing 85 charges in connection to the riot, which saw approximately 1,000 people gather on Fleming Drive where they started a large fire.
The rioters attacked police and firefighters who arrived on the scene. They also set a CTV News van on fire and damaged 22 police cars.
The new charges include mischief, being a member of an unlawful assembly, mischief over $5,000, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
Police said the weapon charges relate to an 18-year-old man who allegedly aimed a laser pointer into police officers' eyes.
"One officer was injured as a result of the laser pointer being directed at his eyes," London police said in a release. "He continues to suffer from the effects of the laser and is receiving ongoing medical attention."
Police said the rioters caused approximately $100,000 worth of damage.
The street where the riot took place is near Fanshawe College and is home to many students. Some college students involved in the riot have been expelled.
Police are still trying to identify others involved in the riot and have set up a Fleming Drive Disturbance Most Wanted list on the London Police Service website.
