Toronto police are asking for the public's help locating a suspected arsonist believed to be behind 14 fires near Christie Pitts Park in the west-end on Monday.

Damage to the homes, garages and vehicles is estimated at more than $2 million.

The properties were deliberately set ablaze in a 55-minute period, between 4:20 and 5:15 a.m. Access was gained through rear laneways, police said.

Some 200 firefighters were called out to battle the fires within a four-block radius in the Dupont and Ossington area.

No one was hurt, but a family cat was killed.

Residents in the area are asked to be especially vigilant and to report any suspicious laneway activity to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1404, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can be left online at www.222tips.com.
